William Wordsworth was born in 1770 at
Cockermouth. He was sent to St. John’s College, Cambridge in 1987. He was
attracted by hopes born of the French Revolution, lived for some while in
France returning in 1792. subsequently he settled Afloxden. He published
Lyrical Ballads in 1798.
He
married in 1802. He was appointed in a sinecure office in 1813. In 1814 he
published his largest poem the Excursion. For the last fifty years of his life,
he lived first at Dove College, Grasmere and finally at Rydal Mount. Many of
his sonnets were written during the years of 1820-1835. He died in 1850.
